Six students of Government First Grade College in Uppinangady were suspended for two days by the authorities for wearing headscarf in the classroom despite “warnings”.

The principal of the college that is affiliated to Mangalore University decided to suspend the girls after holding a meeting with the teachers.

Earlier, Mangalore University had issued an advisory, making uniforms compulsory and asking students to remove hijab in the classroom. The students had approached the DC for relief, but the officer counselled them to comply with the university guidelines.
